It’s so human to feel helpless when the people we care about are hurting.
If you’re like me, you put a lot of pressure on yourself to do or say just the right thing to a grieving person to make it all better. You want those perfect poetic words in this time of need to ease their pain. And if you just wait long enough, they’ll come to you … right?
Our job isn’t to fix their pain. It’s simply to acknowledge it.
So let’s stop shying away from a grieving friend or family member in their time of grief just because we don’t have a solution for their sorrow.
Instead, let’s focus on what we do have: the ability to see & bear witness to their pain in a beautiful way.
Those who are hurting will tell you... ACKNOWLEDGEMENT of this tough time is the best gift of all.
We make it easier than ever for you to show up for your people with the best sympathy gifts.

It all began with a phone call, a piece of play-doh and a heart that was moved to help…
Rewind twenty-two years:
Renee Wood received a phone call that her sister-in-law’s father had passed away. With a new baby at home and unable to travel, she went online to find the perfect gift…one that would be a reminder of the deep love her sister-in-law shared with her father, but at the same time, acknowledge her great loss.
Unable to find such a gift or the right words, Renee took matters into her own hand… literally.
She used some play-doh and designed a teardrop pendant which a local jeweler then cast into silver. Combined with a sweet message she had written, she finally felt she had the perfect unique bereavement gift.
Soon after, demand for the pendant began to grow and The Comfort Company was founded to meet this growing need.
By combining her training as a medical social worker with her soft heart for those who are grieving, Renee continues to pursue her mission of helping people show up in the best way to tough times.
Because not knowing what to say—or how to say it—shouldn’t be holding you back from showing up for your loved ones.

What is an appropriate bereavement gift?
Remembrance gifts vary and for every person and loss. Memorial wind chimes, a memorial bird feeder or a memorial stone make beautiful gifts for those who choose to remember a person's life with a memorial garden. A beautiful piece of memorial jewelry can be a thoughtful way to mark this hard time. Memorial picture frames with a personalized message are a lovely gift for the home. Finding a special place in the house to keep small keepsakes as a constant reminder of their loved one can be truly comforting.
